Building Stamina and Making Connections

The students have been working hard during our reading time each day.  They're working on building their reading stamina.  That means reading without getting up or talking to the person next to them.  We've been graphing our stamina and our goal was to reach at least 20 minutes of uninterrupted reading time.  Although we've had our ups and downs this week, we hit that goal on Thursday.
We've also been working on "making meaningful connections" while reading.  On Thursday and Friday, Mrs. Carroll joined us at reading time while the students were writing connections.  We will be starting reading groups on Tuesday.  I'll be meeting with 4 reading groups and Mrs. Carroll will be meeting with the other 2 groups.

Tue students have been working hard as they learn about numbers to 100. We used the Activotes this week and the students loved sending their answers to me. The students have been showing the value of numbers, reviewing addition facts and putting together place value puzzles at the different math stations. We will finish this chapter on Monday and review on Tuesday. The Chapter 1 test will be on Wednesday, August 28th.

QR Codes

The students enjoyed using the iPads and the QR codes. I have several groups of QR codes that go with some of the things we're learning in class. The students use the QR reader to scan the code and it takes them to some educational YouTube videos that go with our learning objectives.

Off to a Great Start

I enjoyed getting to know my class better the past two days. The students had a chance to find other students who like some of the same things that they like. Your children are adorable!  Check out a few of our "This is Me" pages.  You can see the rest on Wednesday at Curriculum Night.

Place Value

We're learning about numbers to 100. We started filling in our hundreds chart. When students placed their number on the chart, they had to explain why they thought their number fit in that particular spot.  Ask your child what number they put on the chart yesterday.
