Thinking and Working Like a Scientist!
We've been learning about scientists. We know they ask questions and observe! We've been learning about the tools that they use to measure too. Today, we asked a question and wrote a hypothesis. Then the students actually followed the procedure and tested it and collected the data. They wrote their conclusions and we talked about what they learned! Ask your child about the scientific method we tried out today.
Welcome, Miss Durham
Miss Kate Durham sent home a letter introducing herself today. She'll be working in our class every morning. She's helping out during reading, writing and word work to help meet the needs of all of my students. She will be working individual students or small groups. Mr. Schoenekase now wants to read some Fly Guy books after hearing so much about him! After our celebration, the students gathered all their other opinion writing from this unit and should have brought it home to share with YOU! They also brought the "Opinion Writing Checklist" so you can see what's expected with this writing unit.

Learning About Scientists
We're learning about the kinds of questions scientists ask as they study the world around them. We learned that scientists predict before they observe. Then they compare and contrast what they observe too. Today we sorted shapes by their color, the number of sides, and the number of vertices. Tomorrow we'll learn about the different tools scientist use.
