Summer Reading Club

A librarian from the Oak Bend library told us about the Summer Reading Club.  Your child can join anytime now.  Keep track of your child's reading and turn it in by August 9th.  It's a great program to encourage summer reading and it has some great prizes!  I'm so excited about the new incentive this year. If Long School has the most readers participating this summer, Long School will get a special performer to come to our school!  Please consider participating!!

I hope EVERYONE will be reading each day this summer!!

Science - Simple Machines at School

Three groups of students had the chance to walk around Long School and find simple machines.  They took their pictures and made a book on StoryKit to show what they learned.  They shared their stories with their group.  We're hoping some students will take a picture of a simple machine at home so we can make a Google Presentation about Simple Machines at home.  Here's a few pictures of the students sharing their stories:.com

Fun & Busy Week

The students have worked hard this week!  We reviewed numbers to 1,000 and the students have learned to add and subtract 3-digit numbers!  Whew!  The subtraction is a little tricky but we'll continue to practice more next week!  In writing the student finished their iPoetry books and we also met with our buddies yesterday and shared our published poetry books. Their published poetry books were sent home yesterday and I hope you enjoyed them! The students have really learned a lot about poems and are quite clever writers!  Today was probably the best day of the week since the ice cream truck stopped by Long and we all enjoyed some ice cream! Yum!  Then probably the most fun of all was the Bubble Truck.  The students enjoyed playing and dancing in the bubbles and at the very end of our bubble time it started to rain.  As some students said, "The rain made the bubbles even more fun."  Here are a few bubble pictures!

Guest Speaker from the Endangered Wolf Center in Eureka

We've learned a lot about wolves today.  The students had great questions and they enjoyed touching a wolf pelt.  Ask your child what they've learned!

Photo Journals

The students were very excited to share their photo journals today.  The cover photo is a picture of your child on the 1st day of school and they've grown and changed a bit through this 2nd grade year.  After a field trip or event, the students had the opportunity to write about their experience and now at the end of the year, they have a little photo journal of some of the highlights of 2nd grade.  A special thanks to Mrs. Powell, Mrs. McRoy and Mrs. Atkinson who helped out with the typing. I've certainly enjoyed this year because YOUR children make this job the best job in the world!
