Telling Time

The students are learning to tell time on analog clocks. We've been using the Judy clocks to show how the hour hand moves slowly around in 60 minutes. You can help at home since this is a tricky concept for some students.

Fun with Magnets

The students have been investigating with magnets. They've learned about how magnets attract and repel. They learned that opposite poles attract and the same poles on different magnets repel. They were able us magnets to push and pull. They learned that magnets can pull through solids, liquids, and gases. Check out our investigation.

Science News

The students are learning about Energy, Motion and Sound.  On Wednesday, the students tried to find out what light could shine through. They tried shining a flashlight through white paper, black paper, clear plastic, wax paper and a mirror.  Ask your child about the results.

Math - Data Analysis

The students have been learning about picture graphs, bar graphs, and line plots.  We'll be reviewing on Monday and Tuesday. The Chapter 9 Math test will be on Wednesday, Feb. 25th.

More about Matter!

Matter takes up space and has weight. The students checked the weight of a few objects in our classroom. With the help of play dough the students learned that matter can change size and shape. Today we learned about how water can change from a solid to a liquid and to a gas. We put some ice and water in a glass so we could see the condensation build on the outside of the glass. We also washed our desks and watched the water evaporate off our desk top. We have finished the chapter on Matter and we will review on Tuesday and Wednesday. The science test will be on Thursday.

Making a Mixture!

The students enjoyed learning about mixtures on Friday! We made a mixture of teddy grahams, popcorn, rice cereal, and chocolate chips. Yum!! We also took a powdered lemonade mix and made a mixture. One mixture they could separate and the other couldn't.

Matter Changes!

The students love this science unit. On Wednesday, they learned that matter changes. They took a piece of paper and cut it, tore it, and bent it-which is a physical change. Yesterday, we made chocolate chip muffins to show how matter changes. After baking the muffins changed size, color, and texture! It sure is fun learning about solids, liquids, and gases.

Information Writing

The students worked hard these last three weeks writing information books.  They chose a topic they knew a lot about and wanted to teach others about too! The students will be bringing home their booklets today. Here's a few pictures of the booklets:
