Pulley

Today the students tried using a pulley to lift a container of blocks. Again, the simple machine made the work easier!

More Simple Machines

The students learned about wedges today. First they tried pushing a rectangular block into the rice and then they tried pushing a wedge in the rice. They learned it took less force to push the wedge. Later they learned about a wheel and axle. After pushing the heavy box on the floor, they put the box on a wheel and axle(skateboard) and they were able to move the box with less force.

Simple Machines

Yesterday, the students learned about levers and inclined planes. They made a lever to lift several books and they learn that the load is easier to lift when the fulcrum is closer to the load. They also learn that it is easier to move a heavy load up an inclined plane than to lift it straight up.

Photo Journals

Through the year, I've been taking pictures of the students. They've written about their field trips and other fun activities. The books are finished and have been published. They enjoyed sharing their photo journals in the Outdoor Learning Space on Thursday.  Enjoy!

Junior Achievement

Mrs. Smith has been teaching the Junior Achievement lessons to our class. The students are learning about our community. On Monday they learned about the different jobs in a community.  Yesterday they "made donuts" as they learned about how a business works. Today they learned about voting for something in a community. The majority of the students wanted to have a recycling center in the community. They will finish up the lessons next week!

Ice Cream Truck and Bubble Bus Fun!

Math Review

We've been reviewing adding and subtracting 2 and 3 digit numbers. The students are doing great with addition. Subtraction is a little harder for many students. We've been using our dry erase boards and Activotes to make practice more fun!
