Science Writing

The students love this writing unit! We're writing like a scientist! The students are learning to write a question, hypothesis, the procedure, the results and a conclusion. In our first science lab booklet we all wrote the same question: Will the little car go farther on the bare floor or carpet? Then the students wrote their hypothesis. We then wrote the exact procedure to set up the experiment so other scientists could repeat the same test. We had 3 trials and recorded the data and wrote the results and a conclusion together. Then the last 2 days the students changed one variable and and wrote up their own lab book with the question, hypothesis and procedure. The trials were exciting and they've all recorded they're data and results. Today they will be writing their conclusions using all of their scientific knowledge about friction, force, gravity, and speed.

Science -Matter

We've started our new science chapter on Matter. We started off by setting up an experiment that we will look at in the upcoming days. Both containers have water in them. One of them will have a lid and the other will not. We will observe the changes as the water evaporates. Also, the students were given a baggy of small items and they sorted the items by different properties of matter.

Social Studies Update

We are finishing up Unit 4 - People at Work. Today we learned about how grapes start in the field and all the steps until they are raisins. Then we looked at getting those raisins to the store. Our last lesson is about how we trade with other nations. We will review on Wednesday and I'll send the books home to review at home. The test will be on Friday, January 22nd.

Spelling Update

Next week, we will begin spelling groups again. Your child should know what group they're in now. They will get their new words next week on their spelling day and their test will be the following week.

Fun at The Magic House

The students worked hard at their job site yesterday! They earned a paycheck and they cashed their paycheck at the bank so they could have fun during their break. After working in the community the students worked with their group on a family budget. It was great to see their choices and every group saved quite a bit of their money. Most groups were saving for college or a nice vacation.

The students were very excited about their new class shirts! It was fun finding out what word they decided to write on the back of their shirts. I loved all of their ideas! Here's a group photo!

A special thanks to Dawn McCoy for sharing her fabric markers and helping the students.

Fun With Cursive

The students are so excited to learn to write in cursive. Yesterday we learned some of the strokes like the overcurve and the undercurve. Today we started with the lower case /i/ in the morning and then in the afternoon they learned the lower case /t/. We've been talking about how important it is to learn the correct way to make the letters so they can connect the letters to make words. They are working hard and loving it!

Winter Party Fun

The students enjoyed the snack and all the party games! The also made a cute ornament. Check out a few pictures from the party. A special thanks goes out to all the parent volunteers who the made games, snack and craft possible! It was a fun party!
