Math Update

The students are learning different addition strategies and we've been using our Activotes.

We've talked about counting on, doubles and near doubles. They have also learned that the order of the addends doesn't change the sum. Today we started addition timed tests.  The students highlighted their goal and then had 2 minutes to see how many they were able to get correct during that time. On Monday, they will graph their results.

Kidblog

We used the laptops again today so the students could write their stories on Kidblog. They sure like writing on the blog! Students can use Kidblog at home. They can access it from my website and their log in information is in their take home folder. 

Math Work Stations

Our math work stations are off to a great start. During math, we have a math mini lesson to teach and review skills. Then students have independent practice at their desks before going to their math stations. The students are doing great! Yesterday I sent the first math homework page. Some students were excited and some weren't. Please have your child complete their homework and return it the next day. Thanks for your help and support at home!

7 Habits of Happy Kids

We've been talking about being proactive-being responsible, taking initiative and doing the right thing even when no one is listening. The students wrote about how they can be proactive. We've also been talking about setting goals. All of the students wrote a goal or two that they'd like to work on this year. Then today we talked about "beginning with the end in mind". The students wrote about how they are planning to reach their goal. Check out a few examples.

Sentence/Not a Sentence

Yesterday the students enjoyed using a flip chart to turn phrases into sentences! We also looked at groups of words and talked about if it was a sentence or not. We practiced turning those phrases into sentences. Today, we talked about nouns. The students are great at finding nouns! Tomorrow we'll be looking for verbs!

Social Studies

We've been talking about groups that people belong to and rules. On Monday, the students showed two groups they belonged to. Yesterday they wrote about a rule or two that they have at home.

Your child should wear tennis shoes on A days and C days.
