Writing Celebration
The students have been working hard writing their opinions about books. The students started out writing about favorite characters and favorite parts of books. The students used proof from the text to support their opinions. Most students wrote about several different books and then from there, they chose one of their favorite books to write a book nomination. The students wrote why they thought their book was the funniest or had the bravest characters. After weeks of work, we're wrapping up this unit with a book celebration on Friday. We'll be celebrating by having a little "awards" ceremony. Here's a few pictures of the students deciding which awards would be earned.

Matter Changes
On Monday, the students were given two balls of clay. One was pink and the other was blue. The students learned that they can change the shape of the clay. They learned that the properties of matter changed because its size, shape and color changed. We talked about the physical changes that can be made to paper by folding, tearing and bending. On Tuesday, we made a mixture with Teddy Grahams, chocolate chips, and marshmallows! We also added water to lemonade mix and watched the solid dissolve. The students learned that matter can change completely when we made muffins this morning. We took the muffin mix and added water. The mixture was like a liquid with pieces of solid little chips. The muffins changed completely when we added heat. The color, texture, and size of the muffins changed and they were delicious too! I think this might be their favorite science unit yet since there's so much food involved! Yum!

Properties of Matter
The students had fun looking at the different properties of matter. Each group had a bag of little items. They were able to sort them by color, size, and texture. The students also had fun using a scale and measuring the mass of the various objects.
Telling Time Practice
The students had fun using their new dry erase boards as we practiced telling time. I was setting the clock and then they would write the time on their board! Right now we're reviewing telling time to the hour and half-hour. We'll move to telling time to the minute. This gets tricky pretty fast for some students.
