Matter Changes

On Monday, the students were given two balls of clay.  One was pink and the other was blue.  The students learned that they can change the shape of the clay.  They learned that the properties of matter changed because its size, shape and color changed.  We talked about the physical changes that can be made to paper by folding, tearing and bending.  On Tuesday, we made a mixture with Teddy Grahams, chocolate chips, and marshmallows!  We also added water to lemonade mix and watched the solid dissolve. The students learned that matter can change completely when we made muffins this morning.  We took the muffin mix and added water.  The mixture was like a liquid with pieces of solid little chips.  The muffins changed completely when we added heat.  The color, texture, and size of the muffins changed and they were delicious too! I think this might be their favorite science unit yet since there's so much food involved!  Yum!

We're enjoying our mixtures!

We talked about the properties of dough being very different from the properties of bread.
